Before the movie I noticed a few decent looking upcoming films as well. Like 'Alpha' and 'Unsane' so I'll definitely make sure I check those out.
So a brief synopsis of the film is that it's set in the 1960's. It follows the main character Eliza who is a cleaner at a secret government facility. She befriends one of the experiments at the facility which happens to be a strange fish man believed to be a God by others. I shan't tell you anymore just in case you haven't seen it yet.
My first bit of praise for this film HAS to be the acting from Sally Hawkins (who plays main character Eliza). I hadn't heard of the actress until this film but what a tremendous job she did. Her character Eliza is mute so she didn't actually speak during the film. Therefore her actual acting had to be on top form since that was her only way of making the audience feel what she was feeling. I think she did a fantastic job and should be praised largely for her role in the film.
Next I've got to say that I was shocked at how great the fish man looked, when I briefly saw him in the trailer and on the film posters I had concerns that it would be a bit of a CGI mess. So I was pleasantly surprised, the fish man looked brilliant and wasn't over killed by CGI.
Overall I thought the film was great, agreed some parts were a bit odd but that's exactly what I was expecting. I would 100% want to watch this film again and I can't wait to do so.
I am also looking forward to seeing what's coming next from Del Toro.
